What are the pre-license education requirements?

Prior to becoming a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator, an individual must take 20 hours of NMLS-approved education and 40 hours of Utah DRE-approved education from a certified Mortgage Pre-license School.

What are the continuing education requirements?

If your license was obtained prior to October 1, 2009, to renew a license in 2010 on active status an individual must complete 14 hours of certified Mortgage Continuing Education Courses, including 2 hours of ethics and 3 hours of federal/state mortgage lending laws. Thereafter, you must complete 8 hours of NMLS-approved Continuing Education each year.  If you were licensed after October 1, 2009, you must complete 8 hours of NMLS-approved Continuing Education each year.

Note: CE is not required if renewing as inactive in 2010, but thereafter, to remain on inactive status, you must complete 8 hours of CE each year.  If you activate your license in 2010, you will be required to complete 14 hours of CE prior to activation.

How do I certify a continuing education course?

To certify a Mortgage Continuing Education Course for Utah-specific education you must submit to the Division

Note:  Any Utah DRE-approved Continuing Education will expire on December 31, 2010. After this time, only NMLS-approved education will be accepted to meet the continuing education requirements. To certify a Mortgage Continuing Education Course through NMLS, the provider must become an approved provider through NMLS.  The Divison will not be certifying Continuing Education after December 30, 2010.

How do I become a certified continuing education instructor?

To become a certified Mortgage Continuing Education Instructor an individual must be a certified Continuing Education Provider through NMLS.  The Division will not be certifying Continuing Education Instructors for Mortgage.

How do I certify a Pre-license School?

To certify a Mortgage Pre-license School an individual must:

  1. Read and be familiar with Administrative Rule R162-210 regarding pre-license education.
  2. Read and be familiar with the Mortgage Officer Pre-license Education Curriculum.
  3. Read and be familiar with the PLM Pre-license Education Curriculum.
  4. Submit to the Division:

How do I become a certified pre-license instructor?

To become a certified Mortgage Pre-license Instructor an individual must:

  1. Read and be familiar with Administrative Rule R162-210 regarding pre-license education.

How do I renew a certification?

Certifications are valid for a two-year period and renewal forms will be mailed out six weeks prior to the expiration date.
